Disabilities

the barge was designed and built in 1922 and although looked into by me, cannot simply be adapted for disabled access. This is unfortunate.

Her design which includes narrow walkways, bollards and steep staircases therefore makes her unsuitable for anyone who is not reasonably fit and able to participate in all aspects of shipboard life.

Most of the time, the barge moors in wild or previously unvisited locations. This means that we are sometimes against grassy banks, high walls, low walls, wooden jetties, other barges, between boats of varying heights etc. Often we don't know where we will moor until we arrive. Take a look at the picture on the right for an example...

The barge sandwich. It was unusual and not to everyone's taste. Particularly the Captain!
