Money and Credit Cards

Euro's are now used in all the countries through which barge cruises.Traveling in Europe has been simplified a great deal by the introduction of the Euro. It is now used in most countries in the EU and the simplest way to draw cash is much as you would do at home, through an ATM. They are open 24 hours but limited to centres of bigger towns and cities, not in some of the smaller communities we cruise through.

You need to make sure that you have a card that carries the "Cirrus" logo on the reverse and that you have an up to date and recently used pin number

It is probably as well to call your bank and double check that it will work in Europe. Most have quite a low daily withdrawal limit. About 300 Euros / 300 US Dollars / £220 UK pounds

The UK based Nationwide Building Society have what they call a Flexaccount which includes a cash card which levies no charges whatsoever for cash advances made overseas. If like me, you make a lot, it is of great benefit. Running the account is free too if in credit.

Credit cards are also widely accepted but not in the smallest establishments. All use chip and pin.
